The World Is in Our Hands: Our Protection Pledge

Plenty's Protection Pledge wasn't written as a campaign. It was written as a commitment. A set of words we return to every Earth Day to ask ourselves if we're living up to what we believe. This April 22nd, we're reading it together. And we'd love for Oklahoma City to join us.

The World Is in Our Hands: Plenty's Protection Pledge

There's a temptation, every Earth Day in Oklahoma City, to throw a party. To make it loud. To celebrate the Earth the way we celebrate everything: with noise and color and a crowd.

But a few years ago, we asked ourselves a different question. What if instead of adding more, we committed to something? What if Earth Day became the day we said, out loud and together, what we actually believe about this home of ours?

That question became the Protection Pledge.

How the Pledge Began

It started, like most things at Plenty, with a feeling. Not a campaign strategy or a content calendar. A genuine reckoning with what it means to run a business on this planet, and what that asks of us.

We wrote the first version of the Protection Pledge three years ago. We've refined it every year since, as we've learned more. As the conversation has grown. As we've held ourselves more honestly to what we say we believe.

The pledge isn't a marketing tool. It's a mirror. It asks us, and now we hope you, to look directly at our role in all of this.

What the Pledge Says

It begins simply: I pledge to do my part and take seriously this role to protect our home.

From there, it goes deeper. It names the interdependence of water, air, and soil. It asks us to consider the ripple effect of our choices, not just on our immediate community, but on the ones we can't see. It reminds us that "throwing something away" doesn't mean it disappears. It only means it moves away from us.

And it closes with something we believe to our core:

Earth is what we all have in common. We are the ones we are waiting for.

What's Happening This Wednesday

On April 22nd, the Plenty team will gather and read the pledge together. At each of our downtown Oklahoma City locations, you'll find a printed copy outside. We'd love for you to stop and read it. Sign your name. Take a moment.

This year's Earth Day theme is "Our Power, Our Planet" and the Protection Pledge has always believed exactly that. Not a single administration. Not one day on the calendar. The daily choices of people who decide to pay attention.

We're also asking something of you: if the pledge moves you, share it. Post what you are protecting and tag it #PlentyProtectionPledge. Tell us about the creek near your house, or the garden you're teaching your kids to tend, or the habit you're changing, starting now.

The earth is not a cause we champion from a distance. It's what we're standing on, right here in Oklahoma City, every single day. Our power. Our planet. Our pledge.

Come by Wednesday. Read the words. Add your name. The world is in our hands, and we mean that in the best possible way.
